Are you thinking about joining a GLE trip?
This is what past students have to say…
“The most amazing trip I have been on so far. We were made to feel so welcome, and there was so much to do. We were providing extremely valuable and cherished community service in what can only be described as an island paradise. It was a genuinely remarkable experience.”
“Just knowing that we have helped them, their village, their school and their education brings me great happiness and a sense of pride.”
“The connections that I made with the children is something that I will never forget and cherish forever.”
“Using words to describe what I saw and felt truly does not do it justice. As we first arrived to the school which is situated in a very reserved area the children were so excited and happy. It melted my heart at how much joy we bought to them. It took a while for them to warm up to all of us but before we knew it they were holding onto our hands, wanting to play soccer!”
“We all have much more than these individuals, yet we still complain and I question why can't we just be happy like them.”
“Going to the Yasawa Islands was one of the best experiences of my life. Over 10 days, I grew to understand a whole other culture and what life is really like for the people of Fiji. I tried many different things for the first time; village food, snorkeling and building a chicken coop were just a few. This experience also brought me closer to my classmates and peers. Thank you GLE for providing such an incredible experience.”
“Without this journey I would never have actually realised or fully comprehended how fortunate I am. I think people take too many things for granted and need to realise that there are people in the world who are worse off then themselves.”
“This is an opportunity not to be missed but most of all a life changing experience that will not only open eyes but many hearts too. I am so thankful for the amazing time I spent in Cambodia and I'm positive I will be back very soon.”
We asked students what the highlight of their GLE Project was and these are some of their replies:
“Definitely meeting the children and watching their happy faces as we helped them.”
“Meeting and connecting with the children was the most enjoyable experience. Building this school for them and seeing their happiness and excitement was the most rewarding feeling. Education is important to me and knowing that I was making a difference to their education made me so proud. I have made life long memories doing this experience and it has changed me as a person making me so grateful for what I have. I loved playing and working with the children.”
“The whole thing, knowing that we have helped so many people all at the one time.”
“Working together and with the children. Seeing how happy they were after the job was accomplished!”
“Trying new food, exploring the temples and doing what we did for the villages. Interacting with all the kids and Village people”
“Seeing the joy on the kids’ faces each day when we turned up in the bus was the best. Most of all it was the excitement when we handed over the school on the final day!”
“The most enjoyable part of the project was seeing how happy the children and the teachers were to have us there and that we were able to provide a safe environment for them.”
“Working as a team to complete a common goal was the highlight for me”
“The most enjoyable part of the experience for me was just being able to see how grateful the entire community was for our efforts and how happy and loving they all were, despite not having the greatest living conditions and opportunities”
“I think walking the school children back to their villages was my biggest highlight of the project.”
